A website you can use, and help when it falls short
Last reviewed
Our aim is for this website to meet WCAG 2.1 level AA. We design for clear contrast, keyboard use, text alternatives and phone layouts from 320 px wide. Some parts still fall short, and we list them below. If anything is hard to use, email or call us, in English, Punjabi or Hindi, and we'll help.
Our aim
We want everyone who visits finvo.ca to be able to read it, find their way around and get in touch, whether they use a screen reader, a keyboard, zoom, voice control or a small phone.
Our aim is to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA. It's a goal we design and check against, not a claim that every page meets it today.
What we do
- Contrast. Text and buttons use colour pairs chosen to meet WCAG AA contrast, and our page checks flag text that doesn't.
- Keyboard use. Links, buttons, menus and questions can be reached and opened with a keyboard, with a visible outline showing where you are.
- Skip link. A "Skip to content" link at the top of every page lets keyboard and screen reader users jump past the menu.
- Text alternatives. Images and icons that carry meaning have a text alternative. Purely decorative ones are hidden from screen readers.
- Not colour alone. We don't show information by colour alone. Words, labels or shapes carry the same meaning.
- Phone layouts from 320 px. Every page is checked automatically at widths from 320 px phones to 1920 px desktop screens each time the site is updated, so text shouldn't need sideways scrolling. We keep fixing anything we find.
- Less motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, the gentle fade-ins and the moving review cards stop, and everything shows straight away.
How we check every page
Each time we change the site, an automated check opens every page in a real browser, the way a visitor would, and measures it. A page that fails one of the checks marked "must pass" is fixed before the change goes live. The others are flagged for a person to look at.
| Check | What it looks for | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Nine screen widths | Every page at 320, 360, 390, 414, 768, 1024, 1280, 1440 and 1920 px wide: no sideways scrolling, and no text that overlaps, is cut off or is squeezed into a narrow column. | Must pass |
| Contrast | Every piece of text measured against the colour behind it: at least 4.5 to 1, or 3 to 1 for large text, the WCAG AA levels. | Must pass |
| Keyboard focus | The Tab key pressed 25 times from the top of the page: every link, button or field that takes focus shows a visible outline. | Must pass |
| Reduced motion | Pages are opened with reduced motion turned on, and anything that would fade in must already be showing. | Must pass |
| Page structure | One main heading, a page title and description, and a text alternative on every image. | Must pass |
| Header, menu and notices | At phone, tablet and desktop widths: the logo, menu and booking button are visible and in place, and the visitor-counting notice keeps its buttons inside it, clear of the other buttons. | Must pass |
| Bars that stay in view | "On this page" bars and the header rows of comparison tables stay on screen, uncovered, while you scroll. | Must pass |
| Tap targets | On touch-screen widths, stand-alone buttons and links under 40 px tall. | Flagged for a person to look at |
| Small text and headings | Text under 12 px, paragraphs under 15 px on phones, and skipped heading levels. | Flagged for a person to look at |
We also look at each changed page at phone and desktop sizes ourselves. Automated checks can't judge everything, such as whether a text alternative says something useful or whether a page reads in a sensible order with a screen reader, so we rely on people telling us too.
Known limits
We'd rather tell you where the site falls short than leave you to find out:
- Wide tables on phones. Some wide tables, such as price comparisons, scroll sideways inside their own box on a phone instead of fitting the screen. The rest of the page doesn't move.
- Small links inside sentences. Links that sit inside a sentence are the size of the text around them, smaller than the 40 px our check asks of stand-alone buttons. Zooming in makes them easier to tap.
- Charts and mock-ups. Some charts and screen mock-ups are decorative, so screen readers skip them. Where they show something useful, we aim to say the same thing in the text nearby. If you think something is missing, tell us.
- Government PDFs. We link to forms and guides on government sites. Those PDFs are outside our control and may not work well with every screen reader. The office that published one may offer another format, or we can help you find what you need.
- Other sites. The client portal and our booking page are run by service providers, so their screens may work differently from this website. If you get stuck, contact us and we'll help another way.
