The terms for using this website

Last updated

This website gives general information about accounting and tax in BC and Alberta. It is not tax, legal or financial advice, and calculator results are estimates. Work for you starts only when you sign an engagement letter, and we confirm your price before any work starts. These terms explain how you can use the site.

About these terms

This website, finvo.ca, is run by Finvo Partners Ltd. ("Finvo", "we", "us"), an accounting firm in British Columbia and Alberta. By using the website, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.

These terms may change; the date at the top shows the last update.

General information, not advice

Everything on this website is general information. It is not tax, legal or financial advice, and it doesn't take your own situation into account. Rules change, and the right step for you depends on your facts.

Please don't rely on the website alone before making a tax, legal, financial or business decision. Talk to us, or another qualified adviser, about your situation first. Where a question touches contracts or corporate law, we work alongside your lawyer.

Calculators and checkers

Results from our free tools are estimates. They're based on what you enter and on the rules as we understood them when the tool was built. They are not a tax return, an assessment or a decision on whether you qualify for anything. CRA, the province or the program decides.

The tools run in your browser. What you type isn't stored or sent to us unless you ask for a calculator's full breakdown: then the report form sends your details with the numbers you entered and the results, as the privacy policy explains. If a tool ever starts sending what you type anywhere else, we'll update this page and the privacy policy before that change goes live.

Working with us

  • Using the website, or contacting us, doesn't make you a client.
  • An engagement starts only when you sign an engagement letter. The letter sets out the work we'll do, what we need from you and the fees.
  • Your price is confirmed before any work starts.
  • Prices are in Canadian dollars, before GST. Prices shown on the website are starting prices; see pricing.
  • If the engagement letter and these terms differ, the engagement letter applies to your work.

The website chat (Finvo AI)

Finvo AI, our website chat, answers general questions about Finvo from the content of this website. Like the rest of the site, its replies are general information, not tax, legal or financial advice. It doesn't see your file or the client portal; for anything about your own situation, talk to our team.

The chat has limits. It answers a set number of questions in each conversation, it can be paused or unavailable at times, and like any automated tool it can get things wrong. Check anything important with our team, or on the official page, before you rely on it.

Please keep the chat to questions about Finvo, and keep it respectful. If a conversation breaks these rules, the chat warns you once and then ends the conversation, and we may block automated or abusive use. How we handle what you type is explained in our privacy policy.

Referral program

Our referral program rewards people who introduce new clients to Finvo. Who can refer, the reward rates, what counts and when rewards are paid are set out in the rules on that page, and those rules apply together with these terms. In short: the reward is 10% (15% for existing clients) of a full year of the referred client's Finvo fees, before GST, paid after their third monthly invoice is paid (or after the invoice for a one-time service), and kept if the client leaves later. We pay within 30 days of the client paying the invoice or the services being delivered, whichever is later. If the services aren't delivered, the client can ask for a refund, and no reward is paid.

Rewards are paid by e-transfer or as a credit on your Finvo account. An account credit can be used against Finvo invoices; it isn't cash and can't be exchanged for cash. Credits for posting about Finvo are for Finvo clients only: up to 3 post credits a year at $5 each, $15 a year in total, tracked in the client's own account, with the rules shown on the referral program page.

Finvo decides disputes in good faith. We may change or end the program; rewards already earned stand. How we use the details you give us to run the program is explained in our privacy policy.

Limits on our responsibility

In plain words: as far as the law allows, Finvo isn't responsible for any loss that comes from using this website, relying on its general information or a calculator result, or being unable to use the site. Our responsibility for work we do for you is set out in your engagement letter.

Nothing in these terms limits any right you have that the law doesn't allow us to limit.

Insurance, privacy and governing law

Insurance. Finvo does not sell insurance through this website. With your permission, we can pass your details to a licensed insurance agent, who explains products, cost and suitability. See insurance.

Privacy. How we handle personal information is explained in our privacy policy, where you can also change your privacy choices. Accessibility help is on our accessibility page.

Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia, or the laws of Alberta if you are a client in Alberta, together with the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
