Who sits at your table

The same people every month, so nobody starts from zero.

A senior manager who knows your file

The same person every month. They read your report pack before the meeting and go through it with you.

The bookkeeping team behind them

Reconciliations, GST/HST and payroll, and we aim to close your books within two weeks of month end, once all your information is in.

Xero Certified Advisor and QuickBooks ProAdvisor

Certified on the software many owners already use, and authorized to represent clients with CRA.

The cost of guessing

Three decisions every owner makes. Most make them without numbers.

Each one feels fine the day you make it. The bank balance tells you three months later whether it was.

The hire

Without

"We're busy, let's bring someone on." The salary starts next month. Whether the work pays for it shows up at year end.

With a CFO

The forecast shows the month the hire's cost is covered, and the margin you need to hold until then. You hire with a date, not a hope.

The lease or the loan

Without

The bank asks for a forecast. Someone builds one in a weekend. The payment lands in the same week as payroll, every month.

With a CFO

The lender package is ready, we sit in on the bank call, and the payment date is chosen to miss the low week.

The slow month

Without

You find out when a supplier calls. You move money from your own account to cover it. Again.

With a CFO

The 13-week cash flow marked the dip six weeks ago. Receivables were chased, a payment moved, and you knew the number before it arrived.

Is this you?

Tick what sounds familiar.

Owners who tick two or more are the ones who get the most from a fractional CFO. Tick fewer and we will probably point you at bookkeeping first.

Your first 90 days

What actually happens after the call.

No invented success stories. This is the same path every CFO client walks, and the dates are the ones in our sample month.

Week 1

The free call

You tell us what's keeping you up. We tell you which role you need and confirm the price. If the books aren't monthly yet, we start there.

Month 1

Books monthly, cash visible

We aim to close your books within two weeks of month end, once all your information is in. Your first 13-week cash flow, with the low week marked.

Month 2

First report pack and meeting

Report with CFO commentary around day 17. Your first monthly meeting around day 21 ends in a short action list.

Month 3

The forecast and the decision

A 12-month forecast built around the decision ahead of you, and the dashboard tuned to the numbers that run your trade.

Two options

What each option includes, every month

Starting prices in Canadian dollars, before GST, confirmed after a free call. Both options include your bookkeeping and filings, so one team does the books and reads them with you.

In person

For businesses that want us at the table, looking at how the business runs.

From

$899/month

Everything in Virtual, plus:

  • One visit a month at your business or at our office in Surrey, Edmonton or Courtenay.
  • The monthly meeting in person, with the same report pack and action list.
  • Walk-through of operations and paperwork: what we see on site goes into the commentary.

Need more than that?

Corporate and personal tax returns, payroll for a larger team, weekly or fortnightly meetings, more visits or several locations: we price a custom package on the call.

What changes the price: monthly transactions, employees, bank and card accounts, locations, type of business, and how many meetings and visits you want.

Month to month

30 days' notice. No long contract.

Straight answer on the call

If you need a bookkeeper or a controller instead, or your work needs a CPA firm, we say so.

Same person every month

A senior manager who knows your file, with the bookkeeping team behind them.

Who it's for

Who this is for, and who it isn't

Owner-managed businesses from about $1 million in sales, or any business juggling too many moving parts: hundreds of transactions, a growing team, decisions that need numbers, forecasts and plans nobody has time to build. A bookkeeper and a year-end accountant are in place, but nobody is looking forward.

A good fit

  • An owner-managed business with monthly books, from about $1 million in sales
  • A decision ahead: a hire, a location, a loan, a sale
  • You can give it three to five hours a month

Not the right first step

  • Books that aren't monthly yet, or are months behind: start with bookkeeping or the business full suite
  • You need an audit, a review engagement or a compilation engagement report: those need a CPA firm, and we can point you to one
  • You want someone in your office every day: that's a full-time hire
Accounting vs CFO

Traditional accounting vs a fractional CFO

Traditional accounting records and reports what already happened: books, GST/HST, payroll, year-end and tax. A fractional CFO uses those numbers to decide what happens next. Most owners already have the first. The gap is the second: nobody reads the numbers with you before the decision, so the hire, the lease or the slow month shows up in the bank balance first.

The question it answers

Traditional accounting"What did we make?"

Fractional CFO"What should we do next, and can we afford it?"

When you hear from them

Traditional accountingAfter month end or year end, once the numbers are final.

Fractional CFOBefore the decision, with the numbers in front of you.

What arrives

Traditional accountingReconciled books, GST/HST and payroll filings, financial statements, the tax return.

Fractional CFOA report pack with commentary, a KPI dashboard, the 13-week cash flow, a 12-month forecast, and a meeting to go through them.

Who is in the room

Traditional accountingA bookkeeper through the year; a tax preparer at year end.

Fractional CFOA senior manager who knows your file, the same person every month, with the bookkeeping team behind them.

How often you talk

Traditional accountingAt year end, at filing time, and when something has gone wrong.

Fractional CFOEvery month, in a meeting that ends in an action list, plus a call between meetings when something comes up.

Cash

Traditional accountingTells you the balance today, and what it was at year end.

Fractional CFOTells you the balance in 13 weeks, which week it dips, and what to move so it doesn't.

What changes in your week

Traditional accountingNot much. The filings are in and the statements go in a drawer.

Fractional CFOYou see the low point before it lands, the decision ahead has numbers behind it, and it costs you three to five hours a month, not your evenings.

How it's priced

Traditional accountingPer return or per filing, or a monthly bookkeeping fee: the business full suite is from $99 a month.

Fractional CFOOne monthly fee that includes the bookkeeping and the filings: from $499 virtual or $899 in person, confirmed after a free call.

What you can expect from us each month

We aim to close your books within two weeks of month end, once all your information is in. The report pack with your CFO's commentary around day 17: profit and loss, balance sheet and cash, the KPI dashboard and budget versus actual, with notes on what moved, why, and what to do about it. The 13-week cash flow refreshed, with the low point marked. The monthly meeting around day 21, ending in a short action list. Every quarter, the 12-month forecast updated. Through the year, the lender package when you need one and year-end planning with the tax team. Weekends, holidays and late records move the dates.

This is in addition to your bookkeeping, not instead of it. Monthly bookkeeping and payroll/GST filings are included; T1/T2 preparation is separately quoted. The CFO work sits on top of them, from the same team.

How the month runs

A sample month with your CFO

The same rhythm every month, so you always know what arrives when.

Days 1 to 14

Books close

Bank feeds, bills, payroll and GST/HST, then the month is locked. We aim to close your books within two weeks of month end, once all your information is in.

Day 17

Report pack sent

Profit and loss, balance sheet, cash, the KPI dashboard and budget versus actual, with your CFO's commentary on top.

Day 21

Monthly meeting

The 13-week cash flow refreshed, the decisions ahead, and a short action list you leave with.

Rest of the month

Follow-up

Questions by email, a call when something comes up, and the lender package when you need one.

Every quarter

Re-base

The 12-month forecast updated, KPI targets reviewed, and year-end planning with the tax team before the year closes.

Sample calendar for a client whose records arrive on time. Weekends, holidays and late records move the dates.

What you get

Six things in every month's pack

Bookkeeping is the starting point, not the service.

13-week cash flow

Week by week, with tax, payroll and the big bills placed before they land, the low point marked and a plan to clear it.

Report pack with commentary

Profit and loss, balance sheet and cash, in plain words: what moved, why, and what to do about it.

KPI dashboard

Six to eight numbers chosen for your industry: prime cost, job margin, days to get paid, cash on hand.

Budget versus actual

Where the month landed against the plan, line by line, and what to change for next month.

Monthly meeting

With the senior manager who wrote the commentary, by video or in person, ending in a short list of decisions.

Lender package when needed

Forecast, history and a cover note your bank or lessor can work with, and answers to their questions.

Plus a 12-month forecast updated every quarter, pricing and margin analysis before a decision, year-end planning with the tax team, and introductions to lenders and advisors when you need them.

Questions

Before you book

What is a fractional CFO?

A chief financial officer you share with other businesses. You get the analysis, planning and advice of a CFO for a monthly fee, without a full-time hire. At Finvo the bookkeeping, the filings and the CFO work come from one team.

Are you a CPA firm?

Finvo is not a CPA firm. We handle bookkeeping, payroll, tax filing, incorporation and fractional CFO work. Audits, review engagements and compilation engagement reports need a CPA firm, and we can point you to one.

Do I still need my bookkeeper?

Yes, or ours. The bookkeeper records what happened; the CFO reads it with you and plans what comes next. Every Fractional CFO option includes monthly bookkeeping, GST/HST and payroll filings, so most clients move their books to us. If you want to keep your bookkeeper, say so on the call and we look at a custom package.

How many hours a month will it take me?

Plan on three to five hours a month: sending what we ask for, reading the report pack, and the monthly meeting. We do the rest.

Is there a contract?

Month to month, with 30 days' notice. There is no long-term contract. We confirm your price after the free call, before any work starts.

Who will I talk to?

A senior manager who knows your file, the same person each month. You meet them on the free 15-minute call, and they lead your monthly meeting.

Can you help me get a loan?

We prepare the lender package: the 13-week cash flow, the 12-month forecast, your history and a cover note, and we can answer the bank's questions with you. The lender makes the decision; we don't promise an approval.

Virtual or in person?

Both. The virtual option works anywhere in British Columbia and Alberta, by video. The in-person option adds one visit a month at your business or at our office in Surrey, Edmonton or Courtenay. From $499 a month virtual and $899 a month in person.

What does the from price depend on?

Your monthly transactions, employees, bank and card accounts, locations, type of business, and how many meetings and visits you want. We confirm the price after the free call.
