Insurance and planning guides for BC and Alberta

These guides cover the tax side of planning for families and business owners in British Columbia and Alberta: RRSP or TFSA, borrowing to contribute, capital gains and year-end planning. Finvo itself does not sell insurance, investments or loans. If you need insurance advice, we can connect you with a licensed agent from our partner network; the agent advises on products and coverage, and we cover the tax side.

Questions

Insurance and planning, answered

Does Finvo sell insurance or investments?

No. Finvo itself does not sell insurance, investments or loans. If you need insurance advice, we can connect you with a licensed agent from our partner network, who advises on products and coverage; we cover the tax side and only pass your details on with your permission.

What is the RRSP deadline for the 2026 tax year?

Contributions made by 1 March 2027 can be deducted on your 2026 return. The 2026 dollar limit is $33,810, and your own limit, including unused room, is on your notice of assessment.

RRSP or TFSA: which comes first?

It depends on your income now, what you expect in retirement and whether you'll need the money sooner. RRSP contributions are deducted now and taxed when withdrawn; TFSA contributions aren't deducted, but growth and withdrawals are tax-free. Our RRSP or TFSA guide compares them.

Is borrowing to contribute to an RRSP a good idea?

Sometimes, if the refund pays down the loan and you can carry the payments. Interest on an RRSP loan isn't tax-deductible, and investments can fall in value. A licensed advisor explains the products; our RRSP loan guide shows a labelled example.

How does insurance fit with tax planning?

Cover such as life or disability insurance can matter for families and business owners, and some policies have tax effects. We explain the tax side in plain language; the licensed agent explains the products, cost and suitability.

What does Finvo's planning help cover?

Tax-side planning for clients we already do taxes for: RRSP or TFSA, FHSA, RESP, paying yourself from a corporation and retirement basics. It's general guidance from your tax figures, not investment advice. The financial planning page has the details.
