Finvo does not sell insurance. A licensed agent from our partner network advises; we cover the tax side.

Key points

  • Finvo is not a licensed insurance agency and does not sell insurance or give insurance advice.
  • Insurance advice and products come from licensed agents in our partner network, licensed in your province.
  • We share your details with an agent only with your approval, given by a separate tick box.
  • Finvo covers the tax and accounting side: premiums, benefits, payroll and the returns.
  • You can check any agent's licence with the Insurance Council of BC or the Alberta Insurance Council.

What Finvo is, and isn't

Finvo Partners Ltd. provides bookkeeping, payroll, tax, incorporation and fractional CFO services to businesses and families in British Columbia and Alberta. Finvo is not a licensed insurance agency and no one at Finvo acts as your insurance agent. We don't recommend insurance products, give quotes, arrange policies or handle claims.

Insurance in Canada is regulated by each province. In British Columbia, insurance agents are licensed by the Insurance Council of British Columbia; in Alberta, by the Alberta Insurance Council. Only a licensed agent may advise you on insurance products or arrange a policy.

How an introduction works

  1. You ask. You fill in the "Connect me with a licensed insurance agent" form on our insurance pages, or ask us on a call.
  2. You approve the sharing. The form has two boxes: one lets us reply to you, the other lets us share what you entered (and your calculator results, if any) with a licensed agent from our partner network. Without the second box, we don't share anything.
  3. We pass on your details. We send the agent the information you gave us, so you don't have to repeat it. We never ask for, or send, your SIN, health details or bank numbers.
  4. The agent advises you. The agent is licensed in your province and advises on products, coverage and cost, and handles any application and policy. Any decision to buy is yours.
  5. We stay on the tax side. If you'd like, we explain how a policy you are considering would be treated for tax, and we keep the records for your return.

Insurance and other specialists are joining Finvo as contractors, not employees, so a group of consultants can work on your file together. Each specialist works in their own licensed field.

Your information

What you enter in the referral form is stored with your enquiry in our database in Canada, so our team can reply and make the introduction. It is shared with a licensed agent only when you tick the separate box, and the agent then holds it under their own privacy obligations. You can ask us at contact@finvo.ca not to share it, or to delete it, at any time before the introduction. Our privacy policy has the details.

Check an agent's licence

Before you buy any insurance, you can confirm that the person advising you is licensed and what they may sell: in British Columbia, search the Insurance Council of BC licensee directory; in Alberta, use the Alberta Insurance Council agent lookup. It is a sensible step whoever you deal with.

Where Finvo fits

We are the information provider on the tax and accounting side: how premiums and benefits are treated, what goes on payroll and in your company's books, and the returns that report them.

Finvo itself does not sell insurance or give insurance advice. Finvo can connect you with a licensed insurance agent from our partner network who can help with insurance advice if you need it. The licensed agent advises on products and coverage; Finvo covers the tax side. Insurance and other specialists are joining Finvo as contractors, so a group of consultants can work on your file together and you don't have to go from place to place.

Whoever you deal with, you can check that an agent is licensed: in British Columbia with the Insurance Council of BC licensee directory, and in Alberta with the Alberta Insurance Council agent lookup.
